Gadgetell--Let’s say for whatever reason, you need some cash and have some iPods you are hoarding in case the economy crashes and they are used as currency. As an economist (in my free time) I can tell you that day isn’t coming - at least the part about using iPods as currency - and it is time to get rid of them. One easy way: NextWorth.
Who?
I hadn’t heard of NextWorth until today, but thanks to a trusty press release about a new program they have for our men and women in uniform, I know them now. The press release talked about how easy it was for our soldiers to go online, fill out the condition of the iPod. You are then given a value, agree to it and they send out packaging. Once you send it in, their techs go over it and if matches the description you gave, they cut you a check. For our military, NextWorth handles the shipping worldwide.
Psst. hey buddy, wanna sell an iPod?
It seems NextWorth offers this service to everyone as well. I took a look at how much they’d offer me for my iPod touch. $127.50. Not half bad. Then I started to wonder what they did with these iPods. Recycle? Sell to eBayers? The answer seems to be they sell them on their website. Yes, for the same iPod touch I sold for $127, they turn around and sell it for $209.99. Not a bad deal.
And compared to eBay?
Then I checked eBay to compare. The going rate for 16GB touch is $177 to $240 (with more sold over $200). Presumably, this would be safer than eBay as you know at least techs are going over the device. They have all kinds of iPods in various states of repair. Even broken ones are for sale if you feel like messing around. For me, it beats taking a chance on a shady eBay deal. NextWorth looks to be an option to consider if you are looking for 2nd hand electronics.
